Falcons Hire Rams Quarterback Coach Zac Robinson

Several NFL teams have been showing keen interest in Los Angeles Rams quarterback coach and offensive passing game coordinator, Zac Robinson, but the Atlanta Falcons have won the race and hired him as their new offensive coordinator.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders were the two other main competitors for hiring Robinson. This offensive coordinator position will be Robinson’s most advanced coaching role in his career.

Robinson, though, isn’t the only Rams coach that the Falcons have hired this offseason. The former Rams defensive coordinator, Raheem Morris, was hired to replace their former head coach, Arthur Smith, who is currently being considered for the offensive coordinator position with the Steelers. Robinson was a former quarterback in the league for three years, having played for the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals from 2010-13. He began his career as a coach in 2019 as the Rams assistant quarterbacks coach and picked up a role as the team’s assistant receivers coach in 2020 before being promoted to quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator in 2022. Now he’ll sit at the helm of the Falcons offense.

One of Robinson’s first tasks at the helm of this offense will be to bring in a franchise quarterback. The Falcons split time between third-year pro Desmond Ridder and a more experienced Taylor Heinecke last year and had a mathematical chance to clinch a playoff position, although unlikely, up until their last game of the season, where they lost out on their NFC South division title hopes in a loss to the New Orleans Saints 48-17. Perhaps Ridder could be the answer, but his performances through his first three seasons haven’t proven any potential as a franchise quarterback.

It could be Ridder, Heinecke or even someone who isn’t on the Falcons roster yet, but Robinson will be the one who guides whoever the Falcons designate as their next starting quarterback.
