It felt like a long time coming but the Falcons have finally parted ways with head coach Dan Quinn, along with general manager Thomas Dimitroff, after the team’s 0-5 start. Last year, it felt like Quinn was on the hot seat with a similarly rough start, but the team was able to turn it around and end with a respectable 7-9 record. This year was different. Quinn, who presided over the Falcons 28-3 Super Bowl collapse against the Patriots, has allowed his team to blow massive leads and make mind-numbing mistakes.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank has yet to comment, but it was known that he was close with Quinn but appeared visibly upset after the game and declined an interview request. “When we have something to say we’ll say it,” he commented ominously.
This feels like a beginning of a new era with the core of the team in Matt Ryan and Julio Jones aging with every week that goes by we may be seeing a rebuild soon for the 2016 Super Bowl runner-ups. It was also announced on Monday that the Falcons have promoted defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to interim head coach.
