Ex-Mets Pitcher Noah Syndergaard Blasts New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani

After seeing his former team struggling as of late, ex-Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard took jabs at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The former Met called Mamdani a “lunatic” and advised his former team to “stop hanging out with socialist mayors” during an interview with podcast host Tomi Lahren. Syndergaard also blasted the mayor’s portfolio: “Well, he’s like 34 years old and never really held an actual job beforehand.”

As a result of the Mets’ struggles, Mamdani has earned an unofficial nickname: “Mayor Mambino.” This nickname arose after the Mets went on a ten-game losing streak following the mayor’s visit to Citi Field last month.

“I hate saying it, but at the end of the day, the Mets are going to Met,” Syndergaard remarked. “I think I’m allowed to kind of say that because I bled orange and blue for eight years. Made it to the World Series with them.” Just kind of disappointed to see who they’re inviting into their clubhouse and the lack of success they’re having. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. We have a huge payroll, and it’s not creating great dividends for them.”

Syndergaard made headlines last week for his visit to the Oval Office. During his visit, he called President Donald Trump “patriotic” and criticized the negativity Trump receives.

These jabs came at a time when the Mets are currently 16-25, one of the worst records in the MLB. As of May 13, the Mets are batting .225 as a team, and the pitching staff owns a 3.80 ERA. The offense’s batting average places them 28th in the majors.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list following Tuesday night’s win, further worsening the Mets’ problems.
