ESPN Suspends Jemele Hill For Second Twitter Violation

Jemele Hill has been even more intensely reprimanded by ESPN.

The network suspended the “Sports Center” host) for two weeks on Monday following Hill’s second “violation” of the company’s social media guidelines.

In her latest tweets, Hill suggested fans boycott Dallas Cowboys advertisers if they were angered by owner Jerry Jones’ announcement that he would bench any players who refused to stand for the national anthem. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross reportedly issued a similar warning.

“This play always work,” she wrote Sunday. “Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about JJ’s statement, boycott his advertisers.”

Hill then clarified her tweet on Monday, writing: “Just so we’re clear: I’m not advocating a NFL boycott. But an unfair burden has been put on players in Dallas & Miami w/ anthem directives.”

The tweets come after President Donald Trump made a series of comments saying he believed NFL players who sat or knelt during the anthem should be fired. Trump praised Jones for his stance on respecting the anthem and flag, and claimed the two had recently spoken about the issue. Jones and the entire Cowboys team took a knee on the field before the anthem on Sept. 25.

“Jerry Jones also has created a problem for his players, specifically the black ones,” Hill tweeted. “If they don’t kneel, some will see them as sellouts.”

She later said, “If you strongly reject what Jerry Jones said, the key is his advertisers. Don’t place the burden squarely on the players.”

Last month, Hill also drew headlines for lambasting Trump on Twitter, calling the 45th President a “white supremacist” who has surrounded himself with people of that nature. Hill was forced to apologize after this.

Several members of Trump’s administration and his supporters condemned Hill: White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the inflammatory tweets a “fireable offense.”

Multiple black journalists decried Hill’s suspension.

Hill also denounced Cam Newton last week after the Carolina Panthers quarterback made a sexist comment to a female reporter during a press conference.
