Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins was fined $40,000 and stripped of his captaincy earlier this week, three days after a video, and photographs of Haskins at an event with strippers while not wearing a mask circulated.
The captaincy was voted on by his teammates at the beginning of the season, and the players voted again to ultimately take that captaincy away because of Haskin’s actions.
On Sunday, Haskins was at his girlfriend’s birthday party where strippers were present. This instance was not the first time that Haskins violated COVID-19 protocols this season. Earlier in the year, he also violated these protocols by making a reservation at the team hotel for a family friend.
Following a public apology for his poor decision, Haskins participated in Washington’s practice on Wednesday where he apologized to his teammates and took starter reps. Despite his actions, there is still a chance Haskins will continue to start for the 6-8 Washington Football Team.

QB Alex Smith did not practice because of his ongoing calf injury.
Haskins as well as the rest of his teammates are required to wear a mask and a face mask with a special shield at practice. The NFL and Rivera hatched a plan to allow Haskins to participate in practice safely this past week, with his punishments taken into consideration. The league and Rivera plan on getting Haskins two daily tests, and he is supposed to social distance and attends meetings virtually.
Haskins, who formerly played for Ohio State has two years left of his rookie contract, and there is no guarantee he will be back after this season.
