The Anaheim Ducks may have won Game 3 of their second-round Stanley Cup Playoff series on Sunday in Edmonton, Alberta, but it was the Oilers’ fan base that proved to be the most classy.
As country music star Brett Kissel walked onto the ice at Rogers Place to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner,” his microphone stopped working. However, Kissel didn’t fret and instead asked to the home crowd of 18,000-plus fans to help him out.
The fans, most of them Oilers supporters, almost immediately rose to the challenge and began crooning not just the Canadian anthem (“O Canada”), but also the American anthem.

The crowd then did the same with the Canadian anthem. After the game, Kisssel took to Twitter — where the moment quickly began trending — to thank the fans in Edmonton for their participation amid the technical difficulties.
Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli released a statement Monday to congratulate the Oilers fans for their “inspiring” and “powerful” performance:
“Congratulations to the Edmonton fans for creating such a special moment last night by singing both of the national anthems,” the statement read. “To hear the audience passionately sing both the Canadian and United States anthems was inspiring and powerful. Well done, Edmonton!”
The Ducks won the game 6-3 and now lead the Western Conference Series 2-1. Game 4 is Wednesday in Edmonton.
