Dodgers Ace Zack Greinke Becomes Free Agent After Opting Out Of Contract

Zack Greinke, who was undeniably the pitching ace for the Los Angeles Dodgers this past year, has decided to forgo his current contract with the Dodgers to test the free agent market.

With three years left on his contract, the 32-year-old is in search of a mega deal with another MLB team that would be long-term for both him and the prospective team. His pitching stats from this year’s regular season speak for themselves in terms of financial value, with Greinke having a record of 19-3 with a 1.66 ERA, .84 WHIP, and 200 strikeouts. These numbers have seemingly considered Greinke to be placed for the NL Cy Young Award.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, he believes that the three time All-Star will return to the Dodgers next year unless California rivals San Francisco Giants decide to bring in the former Cy Young winner. When asked about his return, Greinke told the Los Angeles Times, “That would be nice. I guess that is my whole response.”

This would be a big loss for the Dodgers if Greinke would be traded for they only have one ace in Clayton Kershaw and their improved run each year to the World Series would be tarnished.
