Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll Returns After Two Shoulder Injuries

All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll was able to avoid serious injury, as he missed a brief period of time after injuring his shoulder for the second time in eight days. Here’s a shot of that incident via Bally Sports Arizona.

The former first-rounder left last Thursday’s 9-0 loss, as the New York Mets won their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0. The rookie has missed time before due to a right shoulder injury, as the phenom had surgery on that right shoulder in 2021 to repair a torn labrum and posterior capsule damage.

Back in June, Carroll also had another incident where he was noticeably shaking his right arm during an at-bat and was removed from the game, as the Diamondbacks announced it as a sore right shoulder.

But 48 hours can be the difference.

After checking the MRI last Friday, it came back clean and he was back in the lineup on Saturday for their second match against the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he hit a walk-off single to win the game 3-2.

Carroll will need to stay healthy in order for Arizona to stay hot, right on the heels of a playoff berth. After his last shoulder injury, the rookie sat out two games and served as a pinch hitter the day after that. Last Thursday’s game would be his third game back as a starter. Despite losing to the Pirates yesterday 4-2, the Diamondbacks won their series 2-1 with Carroll back.

The rookie sensation has been among the NL leaders in WAR all season as a potential MVP candidate and is projected to win the NL Rookie of the Year. Carroll has been hitting .290/.365/.559 with 20 doubles, three triples, 18 homers, 46 RBI, 61 runs and 24 stolen bases.

Arizona is right in the thick of it, as they are currently second in the NL West, only to the Los Angeles Dodgers, sitting at 51-38, while the Diamondbacks are on their trail at 52-39. Every win for either team is crucial for playoff seeding, as the Diamondbacks will need their rookie to continue his sensational season to compete and overtake the Dodgers.
