Denver Broncos Should Go All In For Aaron Rodgers

Who will be the lucky team to acquire future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers? Well according to NFL Network’s James Palmer, there’s a “real possibility” Rodgers could end up with the Denver Broncos if they can find a way to get a deal done. The Broncos have been active in the quarterback market the past month, trading a late-round draft pick for former Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to bolster a group that featured Drew Lock last year.

General Manager George Paton stayed positive when discussing the two quarterbacks on the current roster. “Drew’s been working hard every day,” Paton said to reporters on a conference call last week. “Teddy’s going to bring some experience to the room, some leadership. We’re really excited for both quarterbacks and we’re always looking at every position and quarterback’s another one, but we like the two we have.”

If they could find a way to acquire Rodgers, they’d move from fringe playoff contender to Super Bowl contender and be able to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills in the short term. The Broncos roster construction has been spectacular, with elite players on both sides of the ball, and a good defensive minded head coach in Vic Fangio. Their offense features Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant and Melvin Gordon.

They have an above-average line as well. The defensive side of the ball is more than elite, featuring edge rushers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb and a stout secondary of Ronald Darby, Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, Bryce Callahan and newly added Patrick Surtain. If their quarterback play went from bottom-10 in the league to elite, they’d be a force to be reckoned with. Acquiring Rodgers wouldn’t hurt the cap situation either, given the fact that the Broncos currently have the second-most cap space available in the league at $25,056,496, behind only the Jacksonville Jaguars. Their quarterback room is relatively inexpensive as well, paying $4,415,500 for Bridgewater this season, the 2021 season and having Lock on his rookie contract. The Broncos also have the draft capital to make a deal for Rodgers happen, having a first-round pick in each of the next three years.
