Deion Sanders Will Miss Pac-12 Media Day To Receive Foot Surgery

Colorado University head coach Deion Sanders will miss Pac-12 media day to receive additional surgery on his left foot. Sanders went into surgery for blood clots in his leg in June, and in 2021, he had two toes on his foot amputated due to issues with circulation.

“I’ve got some great doctors on hand,” Sanders said in a social media post. “I know you’re going to send me this and that – some joker said they can make my toes grow back. God bless you. Thank you. I just wanted you to know what´s going down and that’s why I won’t be at the Pac-12 media day.”

Back in June, Sanders accepted the possibility of further amputations, but the results of the last surgery seem to have prevented that for now. A Colorado University spokesperson said in a statement that the team was prepared for media day while Sanders was unavailable.

“Everyone at CU wishes coach a fast recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back on campus soon,” the statement read. “Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will represent CU at Pac-12 media day events along with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.”

Sanders also said that he expects to be present for the Buffaloes’ season opener against TCU on Sept. 2. It will be his first regular season game with the team following his highly publicized hiring last year. At the team’s spring game in April, Colorado enjoyed a sellout crowd despite going 1-11 in 2022.

Colorado’s new head coach has been one of the busiest in college football this offseason, as Sanders has brought several of his best players from Jackson State while driving away many of Colorado’s established leaders. It will be a very new team in September, but expectations about the team’s season vary. Those who believe in Sanders’ outspoken style of leadership expect immediate success. Cynics expect the team to undergo severe growing pains.
