The Dallas Cowboys have reached a deal with undrafted offensive lineman La’el Collins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The LSU standout was originally supposed to be a first round pick, however, days before the draft his name was linked to a murder investigation.
Brittney Mills, Collins’ pregnant ex-girlfriend, was murdered in the Baton Rouge area. Since then, his name was linked to the investigation, as the star athlete was questioned. While the investigators have not named him as a suspect, he was also never exactly cleared of the charges, which made him a question mark when it came to draft day.
Collins also took a paternity test, showing he was not the father of Mills’ unborn child, and passed a lie detector test, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

Since he was passed over in the draft, Collins has met with Rex Ryan’s Bills and the Miami Dolphins, but officially signed a three-year $1.65 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys: a team known to take chances on troubled players — just look at Greg Hardy, Randy Gregory and Dez Bryant.
Collins, who has played tackle in college, is more suitable for guard, adding depth to the Dallas Cowboys already strong offensive line. It is scary to think about how good this line can be when you add La’el to Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, Doug Free and even Ronald Leary.
