If you read my story breaking down the schedule for the 2020 NFL season, I said that the Dallas Cowboys have the easiest schedule in the entire NFC, at least in my opinion. During the last decade, the Cowboys were probably the most talked about team in the media, outside of the Patriots, despite never really meeting expectations and last season was no exception as the team went 8-8 in 2019, missing the playoffs, something they did seven out of ten times in the last decade. The Cowboys, at least on paper, have one of the top offenses in the game with Dak Prescott under center coming off his best season of his career, Ezekiel Elliot one of the top running backs in football, and a receiving core of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and the number 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, CeeDee Lamb. Although Travis Frederick retired in the offseason, the Cowboys’ still have one of the best offensive lines in football with Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and La’el Collins, to name a few. The defense is also strong with Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, Demarcus Lawrence, and Sena Lee among others. New head coach Mike McCarthy will have his work cut out for him this season.

Looking at the Cowboys schedule, the reason why I felt that it was easy, is because the potential for wins against certain opponents is there. Just in their own division in the NFC East, they should get at least 4-5 wins, which will help them out greatly to make a playoff push. Not to mention they also play the Rams, Falcons, Browns, Cardinals and Bengals, all of which project to be worse than the Cowboys. Let’s say the Cowboys win three of those games, add that to them winning four games in the NFC East, they are at seven, meaning that they would need to win three of their final six games to get ten wins, which will probably be enough to win their division. I will say, the fact that the Cowboys have to go play in Seattle, Minnesota and Baltimore will not be easy, especially if fans are present, but the Cowboys never seem to surprise fans and the media, whether it be for a good reason or not. They will play the defending NFC champion 49ers at home late in the season, which can prove to be crucial. The key for Dallas is starting the season strong, five of their first nine games are at home, including a stretch of three straight games from Week 4 to Week 6. If Dallas can get off to a fast start entering their bye week, that will set themselves up nicely for after their bye, where they play four of their final seven games on the road. The schedule is set up nicely for ‘America’s Team,’ now they just tame the expectations and not self-implode.

The Cowboys are always one of those teams that you have to try and go see in person(and if you have never been to AT&T Stadium, I highly recommend it). These are the five games I would suggest you going to this season:

  • Week 2: Falcons at Cowboys
  • Week 11: Cowboys at Vikings
  • Week 13: Cowboys at Ravens
  • Week 16: 49ers at Cowboys
  • Week 17: Cowboys at Giants

The weakest part of the Cowboys team is their pass defense, and the first four teams can do that, and are also very strong on the ground. In each of those four games against the Falcons, Vikings, Ravens, and 49ers, if Dallas allows their opponents running game to get into a groove, it will be a long day for their secondary as more and more opportunities will open up in the passing game. If Dallas can slow down their opponents running game, they will have an opportunity to win each of those games. As it pertains to that Week 17 against the Giants, I would not be surprised if the Cowboys’ playoff chances come down to their final game of the regular season, and given how competitively the Giants and Cowboys always seem to play each other, that game should make out to be a good one.
