Cristiano Ronaldo
In what is the least surprising award of 2014, Cristiano Ronaldo has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or. After a ridiculous 2014, where he had 52 goals in 43 games and became the fastest to reach 200 goals in La Liga history (178 games), Ronaldo won the d’Or by a fairly large margin.
He received 37.66 percent of the votes to garner his third player of the year trophy: with 4 time winner Lionel Messi getting 15.76 percent and Bayern Munich and Germany goalie Manuel Neuer narrowly finishing in third with 15.72 percent.
As for other awards, Germany’s coach, Joachim Low was awarded men’s coach of the year after his 2014 World Cup win. VfL Wolfsburg’s Ralf Kellermann and Nadine Kessler won women’s coach and player of the year. And finally James Rodriguez won the Puskas Award: aka FIFA’s goal of the year.
