Cristiano Ronaldo has announced he would like to continue playing soccer for another 10 years after signing a new deal with Real Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo Signs New Real Madrid Contract Until 2021

The 31-year-old Portuguese forward’s last deal was set to end in June 2018, but he will now remain with the Spanish club until June 2021.

Ronaldo said in June that he could see himself playing until he turns 40.

“What I most want is to continue enjoying the years I have left to play,” said the former Manchester United star. “I still have 10 years.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez added: “We want to be together for many years to come.”

Ronaldo has scored 371 goals since joining Real from United in 2009 and has helped the club win the Champions League twice and La Liga once.

While he wants to end his career at the Bernabeu, he admitted: “No-one knows what the future holds.”

He added: “I’m going to be here for another five years, but let it be known this will not be my last contract.”

It has been reported his weekly wage will remain at around £365,000 ($410,462).

“I have said many times that I carry this club in my heart, it is part of me and it is a special time in my life,” Ronaldo added. “Of course I would like to end my career at this club. I want to be here for many years to come. I want to continue rewriting history at this club.”

Ronaldo helped real maintain their place at the top of the La Liga table by defeating Leganes 3-0 on Sunday.

Following the game, Real manager Zinedine Zidane referred to Ronaldo as “unique.”

Luca Modric, Toni Kroos, Lucas Vazquez and Gareth Bale have all signed new contracts in recent weeks, with reports in England claiming Bale had replaced Ronaldo as Madrid’s highest-paid player.

Other Real players set for renewals include defender Pepe, whose contract ends next summer, and Isco, whose deal runs until June 2018.

Ronaldo won the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France in July as a member of Portugal’s national team. He was injured early in the final match, but cheered on his teammates from the sideline.
