Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to sign his franchise tender with the team for the 2020 season.
Prescott signing his franchise tender will make him a little more than $31 million during the 2020 NFL season. Now the Cowboys and Prescott have until July 15 to agree upon a long-term contract, something the two sides have been unable to do up until this point. If the two do not agree to a contract, then they cannot negotiate a new contract until the end of the 2020 season.
Although Prescott plans to sign in his franchise tender, does not mean that he and the team will agree on a deal by that July 15 deadline, but Presoctt will be required to report for the start of training camp. For the Cowboys, it will be crucial for them to sign a deal with their franchise quarterback as it is expected that the NFL salary cap will go down for the 2021 season given the loss of revenue because of the coronavirus pandemic. The franchise tag amount will also go up for 2021 and Prescott could potentially make around $37 million if he were to be tagged again.
