Cowboys Fall To Bears 31-24, Frustration Starting To Build After Dallas Loses 3rd Straight

The Dallas Cowboys are now 6-7 after losing in Chicago to the Bears Thursday night 31-24. This marks the Cowboys third straight loss and their fourth in five games.

Before the season started, this roster was positioned at number ten in the NFL power rankings, according to Bleacher Report. Even at this point in the season they are still ranked number one in total offense per game, and first in passing yards per game. The defense is also highly ranked at number ten in the league only giving up 326 total yards per game.

But where is it going wrong with this team? Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, has been critical of the Cowboys on the FS1 show Undisputed. After the game he tweeted, “I know Jerry [Jones] said: he’s not firing Jason [Garrett], but the way the tm is playing will force Jerry to change his mind. The effort was pitiful.”

Owner Jerry Jones has been mostly supportive of Garrett throughout the season, but he continued to voice his frustration on the team’s performance after Thursday’s loss.

“It’s losing, losing, losing. I’m not trying to be funny here, but the point is that we’ve got to win a football game. I don’t care what the standings are, what the numbers are. We had thought that we could come up here and play a good team and play a fine football game and get our act to where we’re starting to look like a team that could — if we by a slim chance if we get in the playoffs — where we could win.

Garrett has been in the news all year over whether or not he is in jeopardy of being fired next year.  Jones appeared on 105.3’s The Fan to map out the necessary criteria for Garrett to gain a new contract. “There is no bar, and when I say that, I don’t mean there’s not a level, a point where I determine it’s just not working or I determine it’s working, but there’s many things, there’s boxes to be checked.”

Dallas’ performance did not help his case. Even with two turnovers forced against Chicago, the offense struggled most of the game. They were going up against a team with one of the worst quarterbacks statistically in Mitch Trubisky, and an offense that ranked 27th in points per game averaging 17.7. They’re also 28th in passing with only 281 yards per game,

The Bears were able to score a season high 31 points, and Head Coach Matt Nagy used effective play calls to get Trubisky running room off fake handoffs and bootlegs. On the first drive of the game he ran for two first downs, and had 63 yards rushing including a touchdown.  Trubisky finished with 244 yards passing, 63 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns completing 74.2 % of his passes. His usual rate is 63.7. The Bears are now 7-6.

Dallas is still first in the NFC east going into their game next Sunday against the Rams at home.
