Couple Finds Vince Lombardi Sweater Worth $20K

In a one and a million chance, a couple shopping at a North Carolina Goodwill store found an item that is considered gold in the sports memorabilia world. Sean McEvoy and his wife Rikki were shopping for their own vintage store Roslyn Trading Company, when they found a cool West Point sweater that they bought for a measly 58 cents.

Well, it turns out this sweater was actually worn and owned by legendary coach Vince Lombardi: for those who do not know, if there was a Mount Rushmore of coaches, Vince Lombardi would be front and center — the Super Bowl trophy is even named after him. The couple found out this knowledge by watching a Lombardi documentary, where they saw the same exact sweater: in a one and a million shot, they checked the collar and it actually had Lombardi’s name written on it.

After attempting to sell it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame — they wanted him to donate it — Sean drove down to Dallas to have it authenticated and then sold. On Feb. 21, Heritage Auctions will auction the piece of NFL history and plenty of experts are claiming it could go as high as $20,000.
