Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Avoids ‘Long-Term’ Hamstring Injury In 44-22 Loss To Cowboys

The Washington Commanders‘ night went from bad to worse on Sunday as quarterback Jayden Daniels left early in the third quarter with a right hamstring injury during a 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Daniels went down in the third after being sacked by Dallas linebacker Shemar James. As he was hit, Daniels appeared to pull his hamstring and fumbled the ball before he limped off the field. He was evaluated in the medical tent and later ruled out for the remainder of the game. Head coach Dan Quinn said Daniels will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Before exiting, Daniels completed 12 of 22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown, and ran eight times for 35 yards and another score. His absence was another setback for the Washington offense, already without top receivers Terry McLaurin, with a quad injury, Deebo Samuel, with a heel injury, and Noah Brown, with a groin injury.

Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels and struggled in relief, completing 4 of 10 passes for 63 yards and throwing a pick-six on his first series that helped Dallas extend its lead to 41-15. Quinn said, “The lopsided score did not affect the decision to keep Daniels out.”

Daniels, who has already missed two games this season with a left knee sprain, was not walking with a limp in the locker room after the game, according to team officials.

On Wednesday, MRI results showed that Daniels had avoided any long-term injury.

Washington fell to 3-4 on the season and will travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs, who are 4-3, next week.
