Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich has signed a five-year deal to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts were believed to get New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their new coach, but McDaniels backed out at the last minute as fired coach Chuck Pagano’s replacement.

Reich, 56, emerged as the favorite for the position after meeting with Colts general manager Chris Ballard on Friday. The Colts also interviewed New Orleans Saints assistant head coach/tight ends Dan Campbell and Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

The team will formally introduce Reich as their head coach at a press conference Tuesday at 3:30 pm EST.

“We are excited to have Frank Reich as our new head coach,” said Ballard. “Frank is a leader of men who will demand excellence from our players on and off the field. I look forward to working with Frank to deliver a championship-caliber team to the city of Indianapolis.”

Reich had spent two seasons leading the Eagles’ offense. Before that, he served as an assistant coach for the Arizona Cardinals and then-San Diego Chargers. Reich previously worked for the Colts as an offensive coaching staff assistant in 2008, as a quarterbacks coach (2009-2010) and as a wide receivers coach in 2011.

Reich has helped develop several prolific quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz and reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles throughout his career, and Indianapolis is hoping Reich’s success will carry over to Andrew Luck, who missed the entire 2017 season with a persistent shoulder injury. Luck’s injury caused the Colts to fall to 4-12 on the season.
