Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and his camp have reached out to the San Francisco 49ers in their head coach search. This comes after the 49ers fired their last head coach in Jim Tomsula, who only coached one season and gave the team a 5-11 record.
A source has stated that the 49ers will consider bringing in the former Eagles coach for an interview. Kelly was fired from the Eagles on Dec. 29 with one game remaining in the season against the New York Giants. Complaints about Kelly centered on his poor communication with players and management. “Looking for somebody who interacts very well and communicates clearly with everybody he works with and comes in touch with,” owner Jeffrey Lurie said Wednesday of what he wants in the next head coach for the Eagles.
In three seasons, Kelly coached the Eagles to a 26-21 record with a 7-9 record this season. He took the Eagles to the playoffs in his first year as a head coach in the NFC Eastern Divisional playoff game. After, Lurie appointed Kelly to head of football operations in addition to his usual head coaching duties, thus giving Kelly the final say who would be on the 53-man roster for each upcoming season.
