Today, we will be looking at the Chicago Bears. After making the playoffs in Matt Nagy’s first season as head coach, year two left a lot to be desired as the Bears went 8-8 and finished third in the NFC North. There are a lot of questions on this Bears team, especially on offense. There is a clear quarterback competition between Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, who they traded for over the offseason. The Bears also have nine tight ends on their roster. NINE!!! This includes Jimmy Graham who was signed as a free agent and Cole Kmet, who the team took with their first pick in this year’s draft. David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen are the top two running backs on the depth chart and neither guy has shown that they can be the number one option on a team. The defense is what will carry this team. Akiem Hicks is returning from injury, and there are still some really nice pieces in Kahlil Mack, Danny Trevathan, Eddie Jackson, Kyle Fuller and Roquan Smith.

Breaking down the Bears schedule, I think they will have some struggles, but have the possibility for success in 2020. With their bye falling in Week 11, it will be crucial for the Bears to start out strong, and they will have chances to do so, playing the Lions and Giants in the first two weeks of the season as well as the Colts at home in Week 4. The Bears will also play the Panthers and Rams in Weeks 7 and 8, which are games at least on paper the Bears have the advantage in. Looking at their schedule as a whole, the Bears will also play the Buccaneers, Saints and Texans all at home, which give the Bears significantly better odds to win those games than if they were on the road. Overall, the Bears will have the opportunity to be competitive, especially in the NFC North and if everything falls into place, they could make the playoffs as a wild card team.

The Bears I think will be a fun team to watch, if like I said everything falls into place. The Bears are definitely a team I would want to go see. These are the games that I am going to try and watch in person, and think you should as well:

  • Week 1: Bears at Lions
  • Week 2: Giants at Bears
  • Week 5: Buccaneers at Bears
  • Week 14: Texans at Bears
  • Week 17: Packers at Bears

Regarding the games against the Lions and Giants, it is crucial for the Bears to start the season strong, and in those two games, against teams that are worse than the Bears, they need to win both of those. Week 5 against the Bucs, I mean the Buccaneers have a stacked offense with Tom Brady, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski and OJ Howard, and that will test the Bears defense. Week 14 against the Texans, if the Bears are in the hunt for the playoffs, that will be a very important game for the Bears to win to build some momentum for their final three games. Finally, Week 17 in Chicago, against the Packers. Need I say more. These two franchises have a lot of history. These two teams kicked off the NFL’s Centennial Season for crying out loud. The Packers and Bears always seem to have a little something extra about it, especially if both are fighting for a playoff spot.
