Chelsea Displays Strong Return With Win Over Crystal Palace

Chelsea demonstrated some of the same power from last season’s title-winning campaign by defeating Crystal Palace Football Club 3-0 in the Premiere League on Sunday under caretaker manager Guus Hiddink.

Chelsea Displays Strong Return With Win Over Crystal Palace

Despite Eden Hazard’s serious injury early in the game, Chelsea was able to secure a win after a rainy game at Selhurst Park in London on Sunday. Hazard, last season’s player of the year in English Football, walked off the field in the 16th minute after an apparent groin injury. Brazilian Oscar scored the first goal in the 29th minute before Willian and Diego Costa scored in the second half.

Chelsea’s defense has proved to be the worst in Premiere League history, although the club has remained undefeated in four games since Hiddink replaced Jose Mourinho, who was fired, and climbed to 14th place following the victory.

“That was the Chelsea of last year, I think,” Chelsea captain John Terry stated. “Overall, as well as the goals, it was different class.”

Willian has been Chelsea’s strongest player this season and the Brazilian winger helped his team by doubling the lead in the 60th by firing a rising shot into the roof of the net from 22 metres.

Costa then scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute on a tap-in deflected off Joel Ward after goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey blocked a low shot from Willian.

“It’s unfortunate what’s happened,” Terry said, referring to Mourinho’s exit. “We feel like we’ve let everyone down.”
