Celtics President Danny Ainge Offers Kevin McHale A Job

After playing and traveling together for years, it’s understandable that pro athletes share a tight bond. Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge proved that on Wednesday by reaching out to Kevin McHale.

The two played together on the Celtics for almost a decade winning three championships. And while Ainge works in the front office, McHale has gone into coaching. He was most recently the head coach of the Houston Rockets, but was fired after a disappointing start to the season.

Ainge quickly reached out to his friend, according to the Boston Herald “We’ve got a spot for him,” he said. “I know we could figure something out for him in some capacity, but I think he’s just in a wait and see mode. He appreciated me reaching out to him, but I think he’s just going to lay low. He’s probably got bigger and better things to do — or more relaxing things to do. He’ll have some opportunities in TV, and maybe when the dust settles I can get him out to teach the slippery eel [one of his former moves] to Kelly [Olynyk] and Sully [Jared Sullinger] and Amir [Johnson],” Ainge concluded.

Regardless of where he ends up, McHale should not be out of a job for long. In addition to his legendary status as a player, he has a .556 winning percentage in his four seasons and 11 games as a head coach.
