Cavs’ GM David Griffin Insists He Has No Intentions Of Trading Kevin Love

The Cleveland Cavaliers paid a steep price to acquire Kevin Love in August 2014. And while his production has dropped playing along side LeBron James, he’s still one of the better players in the NBA. So could the Cavs really be entertaining the idea of trading him away?

General manager David Griffin insists that’s not the case. “You’d have to go a long way to convince me that we’re a better team winning in the Finals without a player like Kevin on our team,” Griffin said in an interview on ESPN 850 AM in Cleveland. “We’ve never once put together an offer involving Kevin, nor have we taken a call on an offer for Kevin.”

“We think very highly of Kevin, and we believe Kevin thinks very highly of this situation,” Griffin continued. “But I can also tell you that we have been very clear from the beginning that there’s no such thing as untouchables.”

Griffin has already shaken things up by firing head coach David Blatt, despite his 30-11 record this season.  It’s also worth remembering that the Cavs’ new head coach, Tyronn Lue, wants to play an up-tempt style which, at least as of now, doesn’t suit Love’s strengths.

Griffin’s previous actions have also cast doubt on his support of Love. The general manager has stated that James was not involved in the decision to fire Blatt; regardless of the influence the star player had, it would be remiss for Griffin to not even consult his best player about the decision.
