Cardinals cornerback Malcolm Butler has been placed on the reserve/retired list after a report surfaced that noted he was dealing with a personal issue.
Cardinal head coach Kliff Kingsbury refrained from providing any information about the situation. “I don’t want to get into, kind of, where it’s at,” he commented. “Like I said, nothing’s official. Just leave it at that.”
Butler signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals in March after being released by the Tennessee Titans. He has 17 career interceptions, including a career-high four last year. Butler was brought in to replace eight-time Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson, who signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
No matter what the future holds for the 31-year-old cornerback, Butler will forever be immortalized in Patriots lore for intercepting a Russell Wilson pass in the end zone with 20 seconds left in Super Bowl XLIX.
