Caitlin Clark Downplays Rumors To Joining Women’s Basketball Winter League

With the break from the Olympics over, Caitlin Clark found herself back in the spotlight and answering questions about her off-season plans.

WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are creating a new women’s 3×3 basketball league called Unrivavled for women’s players to stay in the United States during the off-season. Most WNBA players work out overseas and join leagues across the pond to stay in shape during the break. Even though WNBA stars have already opted into joining the league, Clark kept her cards close to the vest when asked if she would partake.

“Honestly, I’m just focused on this right now,” she said. “One thing at a time. Can’t always just be moving on to the next. My focus is right here.”

The Indiana Fever will need Clark at her best as the season resumes as they sit outside a playoff spot and she delivered in their first game back on Friday.

Clark shined with a 29-point, ten-assist double-double, defeating the Phoenix Mercury 98-89. She outdueled the duo of Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi for a much-needed victory that the Fever hope can jump-start the back half of their season. They currently sit outside the playoff picture.

Clark’s masterclass comes after the U.S.A. women’s team took gold in Paris. She downplayed the controversy for not being selected. Still, her incredible numbers during her rookie season prove the exclusion may have been an oversight, even with the undefeated record of Dawn Staley’s team.

Clark currently leads her team in minutes played, points averaged per game and assists. The Fever will be on national TV on ABC Sunday as they take on the Seattle Storm in a showdown with Nneka Ogwumike.

The U.S. women’s team won six consecutive games in France and defeated the host nation 67-66 in the gold medal match. They have won 61 straight games dating back to 1992.
