Now that the regular season is over for the Miami Hurricanes, the full focus is on naming a new head coach. Al Golden, who had led the team for five years, was fired midseason after a 58-0 home loss to Clemson.
The fan favorite for the job is Butch Davis, who was the program’s head coach during their late 90’s glory days. He recruited and coached Hurricane greats Jeremy Shockey, Clinton Portis, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Edgerrin James, all of whom saw both NCAA and NFL success. Davis himself then left Coral Gables for the NFL ranks, where he Cleveland Browns before returning to the NCAA to lead the University of North Carolina.
Miami, however, is hesitant to bring Davis in due to the fact that his UNC program was investigated for academic misconduct.
The school has also interviewed Mark Richt, the recently-fired University of Georgia coach, former Tampa Bay Bucaneers head coach Greg Schiano, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and interim coach Larry Scott, won four games after taking over the team in October.

Regardless of who is named, they will be held to a high standard. Despite the blowout that cost Golden his job, the team was still above .500 at the time that the ax fell.
