Browns WR Terrelle Pryor Makes Great Catch Over Defender In 29-10 Loss To Eagles

Until Week 5, Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III will be without his team’s best receiver, Josh Gordon.

Browns WR Terrelle Pryor Makes Great Catch Over Defender In 29-10 Loss To Eagles

Until then, Terrelle Pryor, a quarterback-turned-wideout, is attempting to alleviate the burden of Gordon’s suspension by making spectacular catches like the one he made in the Browns’ 29-10 season-opening loss to the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday.

On a first-and-15 in the second quarter, RG3 found Pryor deep down the left sideline for a 44-yard gain. The 27-year-old Ohio State product leaped over cornerback Nolan Carroll to make the catch.

Pryor finished the first half with three catches for 68 yards and now appears to be Griffin’s favorite target.

Promoted from No. 3 quarterback to starter just eight days ago, Carson Wentz– the 2016 NFL Draft No. 2 overall pick from North Dakota State– played like a franchise quarterback in his first regular-season start with the Eagles. Wentz played mistake-free football despite missing the last three preseason games with injured ribs. He finished 22 of 37 with a 101.0 passer rating.

The Browns, led by new coach Hue Jackson, lost their opener for the 12th consecutive season.

Wentz threw a 19-yard TD pass to Jordan Matthews on the opening drive and tossed a perfect 35-yard TD pass down the right side to Nelson Agholor for a 22-10 lead in the third quarter.

Matthews dropped Wentz’s first pass, but the youngster completed the following four for 57 yards. Zach Ertz made an outstanding, one-handed grab for a 14-yard gain on Wentz’s second pass. Wentz went back to Matthews for a TD and a 7-0 lead.

After a pass interference call against Malcolm Jenkins in the second quarter negated a stop on third down, Browns running back Isaiah Crowell raced in from the 2 yard-line to score and cut it to 10-7.

Griffin had a strong first half, too, despite tossing an interception. Perhaps one of the QB’s best moments came when he pump-faked this defender en route to a strong 20-yard gain.

If Pryor continues to make solid catches like his 44-yard jumper on Sunday, he will surely soon jump to the top of the NFL wide receiver standings as well.
