Brock Osweiler Distracted By Green Laser During Texans’ 27-20 Loss To Raiders In Mexico City

Brock Osweiler and the Houston Texans suffered a 27-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City on Monday night, and the Texans’ quarterback pointed to a peculiar distraction that he seemed to partially blame for the defeat.

Brock Osweiler Distracted By Green Laser During Texans’ 27-20 Loss

Osweiler had to endure a bright green laser pointer being shined in his eyes for part of the game. The QB called it “very distracting.”

“I’m still gathering information on what exactly took place, but all I know at this point is when we were out there on the field on offense, there were multiple times I saw a green laser coming from the stands,” Osweiler said, via the Houston Chronicle. “There was a couple of times it definitely hit me in the eye. And it was very noticeable.”

Osweiler wouldn’t say whether he thought the distraction changed the outcome of the game, though he said it did have an impact.

“I never want to say one thing is a difference-maker, but certainly, having a laser zoomed in on your eyeball definitely affects how you play a game.”

The game was marred by several other issues. The field at Estadio Azteca was a mess and the officials missed several key calls.

Despite all of this, Osweiler finished relatively well, going 26 of 39 for 243 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Texans (6-4) remain just one game ahead of the Indianapolis Colts in the tightening AFC South.

Raiders QB Derek Carr threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. Oakland (8-2) earned its fourth consecutive victory for the first time since 2002.

In the fourth, with receiver Amari Cooper lined up in the backfield, Carr found fullback Jamize Olawale open for a 75-yard catch-and-run that tied the game at 20.

Then the Raiders took advantage on two questionable spots by the referees to take over on downs at the 15 and drove 85 yards in five plays to gain the lead on a 35-yard pass to Cooper.

This set off raucous celebrations from the pro-Oakland crowd of 76,743 in the second regular season game ever played in Mexico.

Aside from the slippery aspect of the field, the high elevation 7,380 feet above sea level also played a factor. The Raiders needed to use a timeout on defense at one point in the fourth, and receiver Michael Crabtree was seen gasping for breath.

The Texans will next host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, while the Raiders will host the Carolina Panthers that day.
