Baltimore native lightweight WBA Boxing Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was charged on Saturday with battery of his ex-girlfriend at a charity basketball event in Miami.
Davis surrendered to the police on Tuesday when a video of the incident hit social media over the weekend. The video shows the boxer assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child. He aggressively approaches his ex-girlfriend and forcefully grabs her by the neck and shirt. Then he leads her out of the arena. The women, who was not identified, had suffered a bruised lip and jaw.

The undefeated southpaw was charged with simple battery and domestic violence. The investigators were alerted by social media and the ex-girlfriend. Then they filed the charges after viewing the 14 second video. They met with the victim and Davis after the fact. On Sunday, the boxer posted on his Instagram, “Yes I was aggressive with her and I did not hit her.” Davis continued, “That’s mother of my child, I would never hurt her.” The post has been deleted by Davis.
This is not the champ’s first run in with the law. Back in March 2019, he was accused of assaulting a man in a Virginia mall after a confrontation between the two. Davis also had a misdemeanor second-degree assault charge against him, which was dropped in November 2017.
The 25-year-old has a 23-0 record, with 22 knockouts. Davis won the World Boxing Association light weight title on December 29 against Yuriorkis Gamboa with a 12-round knockout in Atlanta. The two-time weight world champion has been compared to former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson based on his way with fans and his unmatched punching power.
