England Championship League club Blackburn Rovers early Wednesday appointed Tony Mowbray as their new head coach to replace Owen Coyle, who left just one day earlier.
Mowbray, a former Middlesbrough and Celtic manager, was last in charge of League One team Coventry City. The 53-year-old resigned from his Coventry position in September after 18 months with the club.
Nigel Adkins, Tim Sherwood and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had been linked with the job.
Coyle, who joined Blackburn in June 2016, left Rovers 23rd (second-to-last) in the Championship table, three points from safety after losing 16 league games this season and winning only seven. They have 15 games left this campaign. Blackburn won just 11 of 37 games under Coyle this season.

Mowbray’s first match in charge will be at Burton Albion on Friday.
David Lowe will move from his post with the academy to become assistant manager, while former Blackburn midfielder David Dunn, 37, has been named first team coach.
Mowbray, who has signed an 18-month deal, is the seventh permanent coach named by Rovers since Venky’s took over the club in November 2010.
