Black Monday: A List of All the NFL’s Fired Coaches And GMs

For those who do not know, Black Monday is a yearly tradition that directly follows the NFL’s last Sunday of regular season. Today all organizations announce who they will be letting go: so uSports is putting together a live updated list of all the NFL’s fired coaches and GMs as the day goes along.

Marc Trestman & Phil Emery

For some reason the Chicago Bears like to make everything difficult, as they staggered their announcements: with GM Phil Emery being fired first and minutes later announcing the departure of Coach Trestman as well. It appears the Bears’ experiment with the CFL coach has officially ended after two seasons with a record of 13-19, which resulted in them missing the playoffs both years: but do not be surprised if he gets picked up by another team as some sort of offensive coach.

Mike SMith

Well it seems times are tough for the Atlanta Falcons’ winningest coach: after getting crushed 34-3 in a win or go home scenario against the Carolina Panthers, the Falcons failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season — thus sealing Mike Smith’s fate. He will finish his tenure with the Falcons 66-46, where he made it to only one NFC Championship game in 2012.

Rex ryan & John Idzik

In a turn of events that was far from shocking, Jets owner Woody Johnson informed both head coach Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik that they will be fired. Rex Ryan has always been a public lightning rod for his loud vulgar comments, but seemed to get a raw deal in 2014: Idzik’s inability to field a proper team, left the team in turmoil — not to mention, his ‘all-in’ approach with draft bust Geno Smith was less than stellar. Ryan will finish his Jets tenure with a record of 46-50: he never won the AFC East, but made it to two AFC Championship games.

Jim Harbaugh

The San Francisco 49ers got a head start last night: directly following their win over the Cardinals, both Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers agreed to part ways. Harbaugh, who has been 44-19 as San Francisco’s head coach, made it to two NFC Championship games and lost Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens. At the moment, reports are saying Harbaugh will take the Michigan job.
