Bills RB Karlos Williams Suffers Concussion, Team Signs Dan Herron

Following the Buffalo Bills’ 24-10 loss to the New York Giants last Sunday, rookie running back Karlos Williams was injured and suffered a concussion, leading the Bills to sign red agent running back Dan Herron. Herron was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 draft by Cincinnati, and spent a little over a season with the Bengals before being signed by the Colts. Trent Richardson from the University of Alabama and Alfonso Smith from the San Francisco 49ers (both free agents) were also considered as replacements for Williams. Herron himself was also placed on the waive-injured reserve list by the Colts just last month. In Indianapolis, Herron had 389 yards rushing and one touchdown in 25 games, as well as three starts.

Bills general manager Doug Whaley stated that Williams’ status is uncertain for now. Williams’s concussion follows a string of other injuries including fellow RB LeSean McCoy, who has been reported to be out indefinitely after a left hamstring injury. Bills tight end MarQueis Gray has also been placed on the injured reserve list following a broken forearm during Sunday’s game. Veteran running back Fred Jackson was cut in August and left for Seattle, and Bryce Brown was released a week into the season after defensive tackle Marcell Dareus returned from a one-game NFL suspension.

Williams currently leads the team with 226 yards rushing, and has scored a touchdown in each of Buffalo’s first four games this season. Williams will follow NFL concussion protocol and pass a series of tests before being fully cleared to play again. The Bills are set to play the Tennessee Titans in Nashville next Sunday, following a bye week for the Titans. The team saw itself receive a number of penalties last game vs. the Giants; now we will soon see if this will repeat itself or not in next weekend’s matchup.
