Ben McAdoo On Giants’ Opening Loss To Cowboys: ‘No Part Of Offense Was Functional’

The New York Giants suffered a crushing 19-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington on Sunday night to open both teams’ regular season, and both the visiting team’s offense and defense were plauged with problems.

However, Giants coach Ben McAdoo was particularly critical of his team’s offense, which was missing star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is still recovering from a sprained ankle he suffered during the preseason.

“The offense was very disappointing. We’re going to go back and look at the film, and see how we can get better,” McAdoo said, via NJ.com. “We need to go back and take a look at the film. I know no part of the offense was functional tonight.”

New York’s offense finished with only 233 total yards and 25:46 possession time. The Giants have averaged merely 13.57 points since Dec. 4 of last season.

The Giants’ only three points came late in the third quarter — on the team’s first possession of the second half — when rookie kicker Aldrick Rosas successfully completed a 25-yard attempt.

The Cowboys led 16-0 at halftime, after three field goals from Dan Bailey and a touchdown from Jason Witten with 1:41 remaining in the second quarter. Dak Prescott threw a 12-yard pass to the 35-year-old tight end to put Dallas up 13-0 at the end of a 65-yard drive. With the score, Witten passed Michael Irvin for the most receiving yards in Cowboys’ franchise history (1,096 receptions and 11,947 yards on his career).

Witten is in his 15th NFL season, and has spent his entire career with the Cowboys.

The Giants next host the Detroit Lions on Sept. 18, while the Cowboys will visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
