Anonymous Cardinals Fan Plans to Auction Memorabilia for Oscar Taveras’ Family

TMZ Sports broke the story that a longtime Cardinals fan, who is remaining anonymous, plans to auction off his own memorabilia for Oscar Taveras’ family. For those who do not know, Oscar was a top prospect, who tragically died in a car accident with his girlfriend back in October: unfortunately, it was later found out that the 22-year-old prospect was heavily intoxicated, registering a BAC of .287.

It is quite clear that Oscar made a lasting impression on the Cardinals fan base: despite only hitting .239, three homers and 22 RBIs, he was highly regarded in the organization — making many ponder what could have been.

Now, TMZ was also able to clarify the items in this auction: “Oscar’s first home run ball, cleats from his first big league game, and a game worn post-season jersey,” which were all autographed. As for the auction information, it will go through Goldin Auctions with a planned start date of January 12. And as previously mentioned, all of the proceeds will go directly towards Oscar Taveras’ family: simply a very classy move by this unknown gentleman.
