Alex Ovechkin Surpasses 500 Goal Milestone

Washington Capitals forward and captain Alex Ovechkin made history last night in scoring his 500th career goal, becoming the 43rd player to reach the milestone in NHL history. The goal happened during a late second period power play with Ovechkin shooting towards the net in a spot he has been accustomed to shooting at in the past.

The goal gave the Capitals a 5-1 lead going into the second intermission but it meant more for not only Ovechkin but to his family who was in attendance to see the milestone happen. A standing ovation from the Capitals fans had Ovechkin do a skate around the rink waving his stick in celebration. Ovechkin would also score No. 501 during the middle of the third period to record two goals for the night.

The Capitals would eventually win the game 7-1 with goals coming from Justin Williams, T.J. Oshie, Zach Sill, Dmitry Orlov and Tom Wilson. This is the fourth consecutive win as well as the tenth consecutive home win for the Capitals.
