After Knicks Make NBA History With Biggest Finals’ Game Comeback, Spurs Struggle To Figure Out How They Lost Game 4

In one of the most remarkable games in recent memory, the New York Knicks moved within one victory of their first NBA championship in more than 50 years, beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in a dramatic Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

The San Antonio Spurs faced a hostile road environment at Madison Square Garden, looking to even the series, but the Knicks responded with one of the toughest performances of this postseason—mounting a 29-point comeback after trailing 81-52. The Knicks overcame multiple runs and delivered in the closing moments to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson once again proved why he is the face of the franchise, delivering his best offensive game of the series. Brunson hit a clutch three-pointer over Victor Wembanyama down the stretch, while OG Anunoby scored 33 points—including the game-winning tip-in with 1.2 seconds left. San Antonio was unable to score on the final possession.

It was a wild finish, and everyone on the Spurs shares some blame—including point guard De’Aaron Fox, who went for a layup up one point instead of dribbling out the clock, drawing a foul and going to the line for two shots. Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson struggled with timeout management, and the team became too reliant on the three-pointer instead of getting the ball to Wembanyama in the post.

But the Knicks found a way to get it done. This is the largest Finals comeback in NBA history. The Knicks fought all game—despite Karl-Anthony Towns and the other big men getting into early foul trouble and scrambling on rotations—and won despite Towns not being especially aggressive.

Now, this Knicks team has the chance to deliver one of the most significant championships in NBA history.
