Quarterback Baker Mayfield #6 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers warms up prior to an NFL football game
During the first quarter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Indianapolis Colts, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield injured his ankle.
The injury happened on the one-yard line, where Mayfield looked to power through a touchdown. He was wrapped by Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner while coming down to the ground.
The Buccaneers’ medical team examined the quarterback before he stood up and left the game temporarily.
The Buccaneers put on backup Kyle Trask, who failed to get a touchdown. The Buccaneers ended up settling for a field goal on that drive.

The opening drive saw Mayfield go for 5 of 8 for 56 yards
Despite suffering an ankle injury, Mayfield returned for the Buccaneers’ next possession, where he rallied the team.
Needing to tie the game at 27, Mayfield was sacked and fumbled at Tampa Bay’s 41-yard line. The Buccaneers, who are 4-7, have lost the past six out of seven games.
Coach Todd Bowles said sloppiness is to blame.
“We’ve got to stop making silly mistakes,” he said. “We can’t work any harder. We work harder than anybody in the league, if not more. We’ve seen things 1,000 times at this point.”
Bowles also said Mayfield is sure to be the starter as long as he can deal with the pain.
The Buccaneers will play the Carolina Panthers on December 3.
