Aaron Rodgers Declines Packers’ Extension Offer

Aaron Rodgers, the reigning NFL MVP, reportedly declined a two-year offer from the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal would have made Rodgers the highest-paid quarterback and player in football.

In April it was reported that Rodgers did not wish to continue his career with the Packers due to his displeasure with the team’s management. Despite Rodgers’ outspoken nature about the situation, the Packers were adamant that they would not be willing to trade the three-time MVP.

Since the initial reports, Rodgers has not reported to the team’s voluntary OTAs for the first time in his entire career. Training camp is scheduled to begin on July 28; the presence or absence of Rodgers will be indicative of his future.

Rodgers has explained one of his biggest issues with the team is general manager Brian Gutekunst‘s failure to inform Rodgers of the plan to trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft for quarterback Jordan Love.

In an interview on Sportscenter in May 2021, Rodgers said, “With my situation, look, it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan. I love Jordan; he’s a great kid. It’s been a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years. It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”
