In what seemed like a blown lead for the Yankees when the Orioles roared back against them after their five-run first inning, the Orioles were three outs away from stealing a 6-5 win when Aaron Judge came up to bat.
This homer allowed the Yankees to secure a victory and improve their record to 4-1. While it is apparent that Judge bailed the team out, Yankees General Manager Aaron Boone disagreed, “Absolutely not,” Boone said. “Guys can hurt you up and down the lineup, obviously. That was the case tonight.”
Along with Judge, Luke Voit hit a grand slam in the first inning, his first career grand slam. The Yankees have now beaten the Orioles 18 times in a row, which is a fairly ridiculous statistic for baseball and although not much was expected from the Orioles after their disastrous 2019 season where they had a putrid record of 47-115. However, they have started 2-3 which is actually a positive sign considering their terrible play last year. The Yankees will now go on to play their first season series against the Boston Red Sox, an important one since they may see each other in the playoffs, and the Orioles will try to get back on track and build some momentum against the Tampa Bay Rays.
