50 Sports Greats Who Died In 2025: NBA Player Oliver Miller Died At 54 From Cancer

On March 12, former NBA player Oliver Miller passed away from cancer.

Miller played college basketball at the University of Arkansas. During his four seasons of college basketball, Arkansas compiled a 115-24 record and advanced to the Final Four in 1990. In 1991, Miller was named the Southwest Conference Player of the Year and Southwest Conference Tournament MVP.

Miller entered the 1992 NBA Draft and was selected No. 22 overall by the Phoenix Suns. During his rookie season, he was a crucial piece to the Suns, helping the team make the NBA Finals.

Cedrick Ceballos, a former teammate of Miller with the Suns, shared his condolences on X. “This one is hurting. I want to hear you laugh one more time,” Ceballos said.

Miller played nine seasons in the NBA. His best season came in 1995-96 with the Toronto Raptors, when he averaged 12.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game.

After his NBA career, Miller played professional basketball overseas in China, Greece, Puerto Rico and Poland. He also has a stint with the Harlem Globetrotters.

In 2016, Miller was inducted into the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor. He was also inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame in 2024.
